[#Review & #Swatches] – MAC Nutcracker Sweet Copper Face compact

Before I begin, feast your eyes on this gorgeous thing!

Most of you know I have been raving about this compact on my Facebook page and on PBS since I laid my hands on it 4 months ago. I have already used it in the 5 days of Heavy Makeup series I did as well but for some odd reason, a stand alone review completely skipped my mind.

MAC nutcracker sweet copper face compact was one small part of the MAC christmas 2016 holiday collection. Retailing individually for 35$ on its website, I purchased it for Rs. 6800 from the page GLAM SQUAD.

This compact contains two super hit Limited Edition colors that were relaunched, Whisper of Gilt and Pleasure Model extra dimension skin finishes aka highlighter and a bronzer/blush. Both much smoother, softer and buttery than its preceding counterparts in terms of the formula.

Pleasure Model:

To be honest, this blush was just a bonus for most people since the star of the entire collection is Whisper of Gilt. That being said, its a beautiful bronzer for my NC 35 skin tone and I love using it for night time ultra glam events.

The blush is a shimmery medium terra-cotta with orange undertones.  It is buttery, highly pigmented, easily build-able and equally blend-able. with flash photography, it looks more fleshier with pink undertones (refer to the swatches below) Fair skinned girls may find it a little intimidating but the formula is so beautiful that you can blend it out for a wash of sun kissed color with ease. For medium and dark skinned girls, it will appear beautifully bronze-y and healthy specially to add depth to your features after wearing full coverage foundation.

Does not enhance pores!

Rating: 4.5/5

Tried & Tested Dupes:
Color Pop Super shock cheek in Stryker:
– darker with grey undertones – Rating: 1/5 – hate it. powdery & patchy
MAC Gingerly:
– No shimmer, completely matte – Rating 3.5/5 – I feel this is a true matte counterpart for pleasure model on medium skin tones

Whisper of Gilt:

The rockstar of the collection and one of the most coveted ‘gold’ highlighters to date, WoGs comeback was pure joy for a lot of highlight lovers like myself. The standalone LE WoG that had launched a few years ago was much powdery, dryer and with chunkier shimmer, whereas the WoG in this duo is much more buttery, softer, with finely milled shimmer. It applies beautifully with my ELF fan brush which normally does not pick any other highlighter, as well as with a dense blush brush like Kryolan’s (shown in the featured image)
WoG is a beautiful metallic light gold with a mix of orange and barely champagne undertones. The natural/flash swatches and video below will clarify what I’m talking about.

Enhances pores – but then so does EVERY highlighter.

Rating: 4.5/5

Tried & Tested Dupes:
(swatches below)

Color pop super shock cheek in Wisp
– darker with grey brown undertones – Rating 2.5/5

Some unlikely shadows that can double as highlighter if needed:
ABH eye shadow in Prima Vera from the modern Renaissance palette
– Lighter with pink undertone – Rating: 3/5
Gold shade from the Morphe 35F palette
– Darker, yellower. Rating as highlighter 2.5/5 – more suited for deep skinned girls.

Indoor with Natural Light

Indoor with Flash

Here’s a video of the swatches on my youtube channel to give you an idea of how it looks IRL without the aid of built in beauty cam features:

And finally, here I am wearing both Pleasure Model and WoG!
